Hannya Mask

    Description

Hell hath no fury like a Hannya scorned. This striking hanging mask decoration features a Hannya (般若) design, which is a famous wooden mask that's used in traditional Japanese Noh theater. It portrays a jealous female demon or serpent spirit born from intense heartbreak, rage, and resentment. Ironically, Hannya's are used prominently in Japanese art and tattoos as a protective talisman, much like a Turkish nazar (evil eye) and Middle Eastern Hamsas (hand-shaped with an eye in the center), to deflect evil and bad luck from wherever it is placed.

Each piece is assembled by hand. Lightly reflective. Ready to hang with carved notch for nail on back. Lightweight.
